Viive Väljaotsa näitus lahendab tema kui tarbekunstniku isikliku nõutuse probleemi tarbekunsti osas. Sirgjooneliselt, viies lahku tarbe ja kunsti, et vaatajal ei tekiks tema kavatsuste suhtes kahtlusi. Tulest läbi käinud savi on määratud püsima igaveseks, vähemalt inimlikus mõõtkavas, nii nagu sellest vormitud nõudki. Vastavasisuliseks dialoogiks ja konfliktiloomeks eksponeerib kunstnik näitusel samaväärse koguse papier-mâché tehnikas tarbenõusid.
Kunstniku sõnul:
Olen tarbekunstnik. Tarbe kunstnik!
Töötan ja mõtlen inimeste ja nende soovide peale. Tarbekunstniku looming on otsekohene – loomine, tootmine, müük. Kogu tehtut polegi võimalik endale hoida, kui just mõni sponsor toeks ei ole. Juhtub, et tarbekunstnik töötab tehases - üks lüli suures süsteemis. Sel juhul muutub tema looming hoomamatuks laviiniks. Need esemed lahkuvad laia maailma ja hea, kui tead sedagi, mis
suunas.
Samas saad aru, et pole vaja üle mõelda. Võib ennast lahti mõelda, vabastada end oma loomingust, distantseeruda, näha varjuna koopa seinal, kujutleda kaduvusena. Ja leppida sellega, et kõik kaob ja haihtub. Pole alles neid tehaseidki, kus kunagi olid ja töötasid. Vahel leiad taaskasutuskeskusest mõne tuttava eseme kui tervituse kadunud maailmast.
Tarbekunstnik – sõna kõlab justkui mustkunstnik või elukunstnik. Võib-olla, et ongi selline mitmemõtteline eluviis.
Viive Väljaots on keraamik. Lõpetas Eesti Riikliku Kunstinstituudi keraamika osakonna 1974. aastal. On diplomeeritud joonistamise ja joonestamise õpetaja ning Eesti Keraamikute Liidu liige alates 1985. aastast.
Viive Väjaots on töötanud disainerina Tallinna Keraamikatehases, Pärnu Ehitusmaterjalide Tehases, teinud kavandeid Soome firmale Pentik OY ja kunstikombinaadile ARS ning on töötanud õppejõuna Eesti Kunstiakadeemias. Tal on olnud 4 isikunäitust Eestis ning ta on osalenud näitustel nii kodu-kui ka välismaal alates1976. aastast.

Viive Väljaots's exhibition serves as a solution for the artist's personal doubt towards applied art. Her present exhibition strictly divides art from the part of „applied“ so that the viewer would not be confused due to the artist's intentions. The burned clay is destined to last forever, at least in human scale, just like clayware. Väljaots is exhibiting also a considerable amount of everyday crockery completed in papier-mâché technique, in order o express her dialogue and conflict related to the concept of applied art.
Viive Väljaots comments on her exposition as follows:
I am an applied artist. An artist of consumption!
I work and think about people and what they desire. The artwork of an applied artist is straightforward – creating, producing, selling. Unless you have a sponsor to support your work, it is impossible to keep all the work you have been producing. And if an applied artist happens to work in a factory, he or she will become a link in a big system. In this case, the artwork of an applied artist becomes an imperceptible avalanche. These pieces leave their artist and travel all around the world, ending up who knows where.
And yet, you understand that there is not need to overdo when it comes to these things. I can free myself and let go of my artwork, view it from a distance, observe it as a shadow on the wall of a cave, imagine it as a fugacity. And to put up with the fact that everything will vanish and be gone. Even the factories where I once worked are long gone. Sometimes in a recycling shop you come across some familiar piece as a greeting from the lost world.
An applied artist – this sounds just like a magician or a life artist. Perhaps being an applied artist means leading such an ambiguous lifestyle.
Viive Väljaots is a ceramist. She has graduated from the department of ceramics at the Estonian State Art Institute in 1974. She has acquired a diploma in teaching drawing and technical drawing and is a member of Estonian Ceramists' Union since 1985.
Viive Väljaots has worked as a designer in Tallinn Ceramics Factory, in Pärnu Factory of Building Materials, completed designs for Finnish company Pentik Ltd and art factory ARS as well as worked as a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts. She has held four personal exhibitions in Estonia as well as taken part in exhibitions both in Estonia and abroad since 1976.
