Triin Lehismets AHI vs GLASUUR / GLAZE vs KILN 7.07.-29.07.2025

Aastal 2024 pälvis Triin Lehismets oma magistritöö loomingulise väljapaneku eest Noore Tarbekunstniku preemia EKA lõputööde näitusel TASE. Oma töös uuris Lehismets keemilise koostise mõju glasuuri välimusele.

Näitusel “Glasuur vs Ahi”, mis on toonase lõputöö edasiarendus, toob Triin Lehismets vaataja ette glasuurpõletuse mõju kristallglasuuride välimusele.

Autor kirjeldab oma avatavat väljapanekut järgmiselt:

“Keraamika juures on mind algusest peale võlunud glasuurimaailm ning selle “köögipool”. Kõige põnevamad on minu jaoks glasuurid, mis asuvad piirimail – mati ja läikiva ala, kristallilise ja mittekristallilise ala vahel. Puhas monotoone pind on liiga igav, iseloomutu. Glasuuride muutmine on nagu mõistatuse lahendamine, otsid erinevaid väikseid tükikesi, et saada kokku uus pilt. Mida rohkem teada saan, seda rohkem tekib uusi suundi, mille poole liikuda. Kristallglasuurid on ühed visuaalselt efektsemad glasuurid, kuid kõige keerukamad. Väike muudatus võib tulemust vägagi muuta. Nende välimust mõjutavad paljud tegurid alates koostisest lõpetades ahju põletusprogrammiga. Sama glasuur võib anda lõputult erinevaid tulemusi sõltuvalt sellest, kuidas valida põletusrežiim. Kristallid moodustuvad glasuuri sees ahju jahtumise ajal. Näitusel on näha kuidas põletuse programmi muutmine mõjub glasuuri välimusele - neli glasuuriretsepti, neli erinevat põletusprogrammi. Näitusel olevad tööd on jagatud retsepti järgi nelja gruppi, milles iga vaagen on põletatud erineva põletusprogrammiga. Põletusete maksimaalne temperatuur püsis muutumatuna, glasuuri välimuse erinevused tulenesid ahju jahtumise etappidest . “

Triin Lehismets on omandanud rakenduskeemia ja biotehnoloogia bakalaureusekraadi Tallinna Tehnikaülikoolis ning bakalaureuse- ja magistrikraadi Eesti kunstiakadeemia disainiteaduskonnas. Igapäevaselt tegutseb ta ARS keraamikakeskuses tehnoloogina. Ta  kuulub Eesti Keraamikute Liitu ning hetkel on ka selle juhatuse liige. On osalenud mitmetel glasuurialastel täiendkoolitustel. Alates 2019. aastast osalenud erinevatel grupinäitustel. 2024. aastal pälvis ta Eesti Kunstiakadeemia Noore tarbekunstniku stipendiumi ning Eesti Rahvuskultuuri Fondi Leo Rohlini Fondi stipendiumi. Näitus “glasuur vs Ahi” on Triin Lehismetsa esimene isikunäitus.

In 2024, Triin Lehismets was awarded the Young Applied Artist prize at the EAA's graduate exhibition TASE for the creative display of her master's thesis. In her thesis, Lehismets studied the effect of chemical composition on the appearance of glaze.

At her exhibition "Glaze vs Kiln", which is a further development of the former thesis, Triin Lehismets shows the effect of glaze firing on the appearance of crystal glazes.

The artist describes her present exposition as follows:

"From the very beginning, I have been fascinated by the world of glazes and the hidden side of the related work process. For me, the most fascinating glazes are those that are on the borderline between matte and glossy, crystalline and non-crystalline. A clean, monotonous surface is too dull and without character. Changing glazes is like solving a puzzle, while looking for different tiny pieces to complete a new image.

The more I learn, the more new directions arise to move forward to. Crystal glazes are among the most visually striking but also the most complex ones. A small change can make all the difference in the result. Their appearance is influenced by numerous factors, from the composition to the firing program of the kiln. The same glaze can give infinitely different results depending on how you choose the firing schedule. Crystals form inside the glaze as the kiln is cooling down. Current exhibition shows how changing the firing program affects the apperance of the glaze – four glaze recipes, four different firing schedules. The works at the exhibition are divided into four groups according to their recipe, whereas each platter has been fired on a different firing program. The maximum temperature of the firings remained unchanged, the differences in glaze were due to the cooling segments of the kiln firing program."

Triin Lehismets holds a bachelor's degree in applied chemistry and biotechnology from the Tallinn University of Technology and a bachelor's and master's degree in the faculty of design from the Estonian Academy of Arts. She works as a technologist at the ARS Ceramics Centre. Lehismets is a member of the Estonian Ceramists' Association and currently also a member of its board. She has participated in several courses in ceramic glaze and since 2019 she has participated in various group exhibition. In 2024, she was awarded the Young Applied Artist Award of the Estonian Academy of Arts and the Leo Rohlin Foundation Scholarship of the Estonian National Culture Foundation. The exhibition "Glaze vs Kiln" is Triin Lehismets's first solo exhibition.
